Read the article to find out if your city is unhappy.

Ever feel like you are the unhappiest person in your town? Turns out, there might be other people that are also having a rough patch.

A professor at the University of British Columbia’s Vancouver School of Economics, Joshua Gottlieb, released a study that was made on the unhappiest v. happiest cities in America. A survey was done to ask whether they would trade their happiness for a higher income or lower housing costs.

The research found that:

The Least Unhappy Regions in USA:

  1. Scranton, PA
  2. St. Joseph, MO
  3. Erie, PA
  4. South Bend, IN

5.Jersey City, NJ

  1. Johnstown, PA
  2. Non-metropolitan West Virginia
  3. Springfield, MA
  4. New York, NY
  5. Evansville-Henderson, IN-KY

The Unhappiest Metropolitan Area with More than a Population of 1 Million:

  1. New York, NY
  2. Pittsburg, PA
  3. Louisville, KY
  4. Milwaukee, WI
  5. Detroit, MI
  6. Indianapolis, IN
  7. St. Louis, MO
  8. Las Vegas, NV
  9. Buffalo, NY
  10. Philadelphia, PA

On the other hand…

The Happiest Regions in USA:

  1. Charlottesville, VA
  2. Rochester, MN
  3. Lafayette, LA
  4. Napes, FL
  5. Barton Rouge, LA
  6. Flagstaff, AZ
  7. Shreveport, LA
  8. Houma, LA
  9. Corpus Christi, TX
  10. Provo, UT

The Happiest Metropolitan Area with More than a Population of 1 Million:

  1. Richmond-Petersburg, VA
  2. Norfolk-Virginia Beach Newport-News, VA
  3. Washington, DC
  4. Raleigh-Durham, NC
  5. Atlanta, GA
  6. Houston, TX
  7. Jacksonville, FL
  8. Nashville, TN
  9. West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, FL

10.Middlesex-Somerset-Hunterdon, NJ

By looking at the list, it is evident that southern states appear to be the happiest regions in America compared to eastern coast. Reason being, it could be most likely that these eastern states have a different culture and values from the southern states. Maybe it’s time for people to realize that there are more things in life than your job and money…
