What is workers' compensation?

 

A: Workers' compensation is an area of law that covers you in the event that you are injured at work. If you are injured at work your employer is required to pay for your medical bills and depending upon the injury to compensate you for your injury. Workers' compensation law does not factor in whose fault it was. You may be performing your job duties and as a result you are injured because a box slipped out of your hand or you fell on the floor as you were walking up the stairs. Workers' compensation will cover you irrespective of whose fault it is. However there are exceptions to every rule. For example if you purposely injure yourself at work or you injured yourself in the commission of a crime at work you will not have coverage.
