Michael J. Deehan, a 19 year old, was traveling on Schooley’s Mountain Road with a passenger, when he lost control of the car while he was making a turn. Deehan was speeding in his Range Rover when he failed to make a turn and hit several trees and signs before crashing into a telephone pole.
The telephone pole broke and landed on Deehan’s SUV, trapping the two teens in the car. It was too hazardous for the teens to escape the car due to the fact that the wires were still working.
When the police officers arrived at the scene, the rear of the car was starting to catch fire from the still-working wires from the pole. The emergency squad was able to shut off the electricity in order to rescue the teens from the car.
Traffic was detoured and the electricity was shut down until the power company is able to install a new pole.
Michael J. Deehan’s losses: his totaled and soon to be impounded car and seven charges that include, driving while under the influence, drinking underage, refusing to take a Breathalyzer test, being in possession of someone else’s driver’s license that could be used to falsely verify his age, reckless driving, careless driving, and failure to maintain a lane.
There are many stories that happen more than occasionally, where a drunken teen makes a mistake and eventually faces the consequences. If you know that you will be under the influence later on, be sure to find a different way of getting home. Hide your keys, tell a sober friend or family member to come get you. Michael Deehan was driving a 2014 Range Rover and is now facing seven charges, do you really want to make the same mistake as him? Driving while under the influence is a serious crime…don’t do it.
