Bicyclist Killed by Tractor-Trailer in Brick

Posted on Aug 16, 2012

Both the truck and the cyclist were traveling westbound on Route 88. The tractor-trailer was stopped at a red light, and once the light turned green, it made a right turn onto Coolidge Drive, striking the cyclist while he was riding in the shoulder.

Sadly, this proves the following valuable information correct. At a light it is best to take the lane, ride behind whatever car/truck/etc. is turning right, and if safe pass them on the left. Sadly, don't assume that anybody can see you – particularly if you are on their right. If it is a semi, never mind a family van, don't assume they can see you on their right.
