A pedestrian from Toms River was hit and killed in South Toms River near South Main Street and Route 166 around 5:50 p.m.
The Toms River man, whom police described as elderly, was walking on the southbound side of Route 166. He was struck by a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old Toms River woman according to Toms River Police.
Neither the victim or driver of the vehicle were identified pending notification of family members.
Route 166, was shutdown in both directions at the scene of the accident, will reopen at approximately 8:30 p.m, on July 20.
Responding to the scene were South Toms River police, Beachwood police, Toms River police traffic safety unit, South Toms River first aid, and the Ocean County Sheriff's Criminal Investigations Unit.
