Jersey City, NJ - A massive fire broke out on Sunday night at 34 Gray Street, displacing 4 families - 14 people in total. The three-alarm blaze was reported at approximately 11:30PM, just a block away from the Sheriff's office. Officers were able to see the fire from the office and called the fire department before heading over to assist in the rescue and evacuation of the affected residents. Firefighters got the blaze under control at about 2:00AM, the hours-long battle a result of faulty construction during renovations. The Red Cross has stepped in to assist the families, in addition to volunteers from the community. There is current speculation that the fire may have been caused by a defective space heater. The fire remains under further investigation.
