The teenager who struck a 61-year-old woman on Route 9 early Friday was charged after police stated that there were drugs in the car he was driving.
The 19 year old Manalapan resident struck the woman at the intersection of Route 9 and Ryan Road. The woman was found by police lying in the shoulder of the highway and was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune with an unknown condition.
Police said marijuana was found in the car, and are awaiting lab results to determine if Palumbo was under the influence of any substances.
He was charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
