One man was killed and another seriously injured in two separate accidents in a 10-hour time period.
The first crash occurred about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday night when a silver, 1999 Jeep driven by a 50-year-old Franklin man struck a utility pole on Route 27 North. The victim pulled out of the CVS parking lot on the Franklin side in Somerset County, made a left turn on Route 27 and drove north for about 150 feet, before striking the pole. The driver was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead on arrival at 9:40 pm.
Next, after 6 a.m. this morning, a man driving a Kia Sportage drove into the back of a dump truck. The accident happened as the victim drove on Route 1 North near the intersection with Ridge Road. The dump truck driver was unhurt, while the victim, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was in critical condition this morning.
