Plane Crash in Bayonne Residential Neighborhood

Posted on Feb 20, 2017

Bayonne - A small plane crashed in the city Sunday morning, mangling power lines and causing damages to parked cars.

The plane crashed in a residential neighborhood on Avenue E between 41st and 42nd streets shortly after 10 a.m., officials said.

The pilot, who was the only person on board, survived the crash and was taken to Jersey City Medical Center's trauma unit. As of 1 p.m., the pilot, a 56-year-old man, is in stable condition, said hospital spokesman Mark Rabson.

The city's public safety director, Robert Kubert, said the pilot was "alert and talking" after members of the fire department removed him from the plane.

Officials are urging residents to avoid the area.

Registration records show the plane is a single-engine 1972 PIPER registered to a flight school in Queens, N.Y.
