Though there is no law that requires recorded statements, some insurance companies require you to make a recorded statement before they settle your claim. Keep in mind, what you say can be used against you. Anything you say, no matter how insignificant or minor it may seem, could be twisted or taken out of context. Don’t give them the opportunity to turn your words against you. If you agree to a recorded statement I recommend you have an attorney present to act as your advocate—someone able to jump in and stop the interview at anytime if the questions become irrelevant or inappropriate.
