If you have been injured in an accident and had an MRI done, you may have heard the doctor tell you, “you have a herniated disc”. What is a herniated disc? Discs act as cushions between the vertebrate in your spine. Discs are composed of an outer layer of tough cartilage that surrounds softer cartilage in the center. A herniated disc results when there is a crack in the tough outer layer of the cartilage that allows that the softer inner cartilage out of the disc. They are also known as ruptured discs or slipped discs.
